iNetLabs is my toybox for experimenting with different technologies and how they can be used. It is also my home network and a place to share my news, interests, and knowledge(what little I have).

NOTE: If you are using an older Netscape or Gecko based browser you will have problems viewing some pages on this site. Look here for details.

Much of what I do is testing with Microsoft Windows NT/2000/Whistler(XP) trying to push the limits of what it can accomplish. I have been a NT user since 1992 and am a fan of the OS. It's has quirks and design flaws but provides a robust, standardized platform for most users to manage. I also use OpenBSD and will be experimenting with it as well.

My current project is network monitoring and management using low cost or free tools to replace the costly systems offered by HP, IBM, CA and others. I'm working on product lists, how-tos and whitepapers and eventually this information will have it's own website.

Previous projects include complete remote control and administration of Windows servers. The use of proprietary remote control software works well but can be costly. Fortunately there are open source variants, namely VNC, that also work. Using VNC along with telnet/ssh and command line utilities will provide full remote administration capabilites at zero cost.

I went to my first CapBug meeting last night and had a blast. The turnout was great, the attendees we're a phenomenal group of people and the presentation was incredible. Matt Fisher from SPI Dynamics spoke about web application security. I knew pieces of this but some of what is going on amazed me. If you ever get to hear Matt or one of his co-workers from SPI speak listen carefully. Thanks to Jason and Mike for putting this together.

2006-12-21 01:00:07 My kind of workplace
I've struggled with the traditional workplace most of my career. I don't keep normal hours, I do my best work late at night and never feel productive until 10-11am. I also work best when allowed time to ponder a need, situation, or issue. This runs counter to almost every workplace except it seems Best Buy of all places. Story in BusinessWeek.
