Network

Being a long time geek and Cisco nerd my home network rivals most found in a small to medium business. My network uses a Cisco 2950 10/100 switch(Chusuk) and a Cisco 1900 switch for access. I use the 1900 switch in my DMZ and the 2950 for my internal network. Internet access is provided by a Motorola cable modem from Comcast through a Cisco 2621 router. Secondary access is provided by a US Robotics 56k Serial/USB modem and a Cisco 2511 router. The 2511 is also used to provide console access via reverse telnet to the other Cisco devices and the UPS.

A Windows 2003 Server(Salusa) provides file and print services, DHCP, runs Servers Alive for system monitoring and MRTG for graphing statistics via SNMP. Two Kiwi tools, Syslog and CatTools round out the monitoring setup. It also provides Active Directory services, DNS and email. Email services are provided by Mercury 4.01b, one of the best pieces of free software for Windows. An OpenBSD system provides firewall and intrusion detection services. A RedHat Linux system is used for a number of miscellanious tasks. All of the computers, switches, and modems are plugged into an APC MasterSwitch power controller and then into an APC SmartUPS-1400RM.

You would think that I have more than enough hardware at home but I'm looking to get a few more pieces of Cisco gear to use as my home study lab. I'm looking to get a Cisco 2501, a Cisco 2522, and a Cisco 3550 switch. Now that the new house has a basement I have more room!
